Arts Council welcomes Catherine Martin TD as new Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht
The Arts Council has welcomed the appointment of Catherine Martin TD as the new Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht.
Arts Council Chair Prof. Kevin Rafter said: "I would like to congratulate Minister Martin, and look forward to working with her as Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht. The arts sector has suffered disproportionately due to the Covid-19 crisis but I have no doubt that working together the new Minister and the Arts Council will be able to meet the challenges ahead."
"I would also like to acknowledge the huge contribution of Josepha Madigan TD in her term as Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. The recent increase in the Arts Council budget to €100m for 2020 was a notable achievement."
Arts Council Director Maureen Kennelly said: "Now, more than ever, the value that our writers, dancers, musicians, filmmakers, actors and artists bring to society is clear. We look forward to working with the new Minister to make sure we sustain their work and that it reaches the widest public."
