In September 2015 the Arts Council published Making Great Art Work (PDF, 0.22 MB). This new 10-year strategy sets out our plan for leading the development of the arts in Ireland over the next decade, prioritising the artist and public engagement, and outlining a range of actions which the agency will take to deliver on its vision.
The strategy reaffirms ours commitment to excellence, freedom of expression and diversity in the context of a changing Ireland. We work as the expert body in the arts through our advocacy, expert advice, investment and strategic partnerships.
Making Great Art Work emphasises the centrality of the arts to Irish life with a strengthened focus on advocacy and promotion. The new strategy prioritises support for artists throughout their careers, by the involvement of many agencies in cultural provision, by the impact of the arts on the creative economy, and by the depth and breadth of people's engagement with the arts.
The 10-year strategy will be implemented through three-year planning cycles, including funding agreements with arts organisations. The first three-year cycle, 2017–2019, was published in the summer of 2016
